So I wasn't going to do a blog, but then I decided that it would be much easier to just post thing (like little things) than telling everyone individually. Anyone who wants updates can get on here... so if you know someone or someone asks about me you can direct them here and they are able to make comments and such.
I guess I should start from the beginning with everything since I'm a bit behind in posting already! We got here at the end of August, moved in and began captain's practices and pre-season training right away. My roommate is from British Colombia and we get along pretty well. Here are a few pictures of my room:
We started school the day after Labor Day (Tuesday the 2nd?). I am taking 13 credits: Bio 100 w/ Lab, Chem 121 w/ Lab, Honors 111 (english), and a freshman seminar class that is only once a week and for my specific major (Biochemistry). The classes as what I expected them to be: not much class time and a lot of outside homework (and many of the profs don't care if you do it or not). A lot of my classes have online assignments which really frustrate me because of connections and so many different factors that hinder internet and homework.
Our first official practice was Sept. 20. This was where all the coaches could get on the ice. Practices have been going really well since then. We skate at a few practices a week just to keep in shape. We also still lift 3 times a week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (well, 3 depending on if we have games on the weekend).
We did have our first games this weekend! They were against University of North Dakota. Randi Motsko plays for them, so that was fun to play my first college games against her. The games were at home, so we tried to get a really big crowd. Friday's game was a mix of emotions for me. I was really excited to be finally playing a game at a UMaine, but I was so nervous that I couldn't calm down. My heart was going a million miles an hour and I was shaking so much. Between periods I calmed down a bit in the locker room and things got better. Friday we won 3-2. It was a really close game and our goalie (Genevieve Turgeon) saved us, she was amazing. I got 2 penalties that game.
Saturday's game didn't go as well. We lost 7-3. It was a rough game and they were getting a little chippy. I had a penalty and an assist. Overall, I feel like I did better because I wasn't as nervous and I was able to do things with the puck. Also, I got to start the game so that was really cool!
If anyone is interested, you are able to watch the game on the internet. If you go to the UMaine website and then find the women's hockey schedule and click on a home game, a screen on the right side will pop up, and if you scroll down that screen you will see a "coverage: watch" button. I think there may be a subscription price, though.
Well, Sorry for such a long post, but I am going to try to update this once a week abou games and anything that is happening here. I hope everyone is doing well. I am for once jealous about not having snow because I really want it here since it has already snowed in Fbks! Love to all!
